AUSTIN TEXAS SKATING CONTEST *SKATE REVIEWS ON THE GREAT SKATE IN AUSTIN! Skate News or Skate Reviews By A Skater* Redbull Great Skate in 2001 not such a Great Skate Contest*
The Austin Texas Great Skate Contest was not so great but, it was fun since the Austin Texas skating competitions were held outside at one of the parks in Austin. Not talking skate parks but just a flat skating surface put in a normal park so it was not so fun for people like me wanting to do aggressive skating grin. The Austin not so great skate was in 2001 and said to be one of red bulls first competitions for skaters allowing rollers skating & inline skating which I could have done best in either field. I just picked my roller skates since roller skating was no longer so common. The Redbull Great Skate was not so great since not many of the skaters seemed to really know how to skate well.
I must say that at the Redbull Great Skate in Austin Texas I found few really great skaters and It was fun meeting them and having fun skating during skate practice for the Redbull Not So Great Skate Competitions grin. All people I met and spoke to at the Great Skate Redbull contest in Texas did agree that the swing dance routine done by the Houston Skaters or Houston Couple for Couple skating was the best by far yet, sadly the winner of the couple skating competition was a family that owned a skate rink so of course in seeing they could not skate well then finding they owned a rink it made more sense why they won over the other couples skating. I of course do not couple skate but, I of course know when someone can skate and when they are not well balanced and can not skate.
The skating rinks owners at the Austin roller skating and inline skating competition could not skate well. Their girl was in the competition and won in her field also but, she only skated around like someone new at learning etc. The contest was fixed if you ask many and of course there were lots of signs and proof it was when they were reading off the winners grin. I think the Redbull Great Skate that year was sure not so great but people all said they loved to watch me skate and was happy to see a real skater out there. Fixed or unfair contests are not so bad if the audience boos when the winners are called and speak out on the unfair judges. The people there claimed to be USARS Certified Judges when asked prior to the contest but, finding out in later years they were not. The judges there were not in any way associated with any skating groups and sure not even certified to judge a childrens roller skating contests if you ask my opinion or anyone else there that spoke to us grin. Even the texas people there saw the people running the great skate for redbull did not know bull about skating nor did the skate rinks owners and friends. The entire thing was so texas style it was funny grin. There we have it my thoughts on why I did not follow any of The Redbull Great Skates or Redbull Great Skate Contests. Since they hired that marketing company in the early 2000s to run their contest I decided to have nothing to do with any of their further skating events. I went strait to the top for roller skating and wanted to do olympic skating contests so for me the Olympic skating for Roller Skaters was the best option. Grin.
